New Year, New Updates:

For those of you just joining this dev log, I'll give you the quick rundown:

Cosmic Cowboy is a tactic turn-based RPG inspired by the original Fallout, Borderlands and XCOM, where the player must navigate the distant planet of Proxima Centauri B and its dangerous inhabitants in this character-driven Space Western narrative.

It's been a while since my last update on my group project Cosmic Cowboy and I can certainly say that the game is looking simply amazing, tons of updates have been implemented by the team. This year has gone off to a great and productive start for the team.

Level 1 Completion:

The first level is nearing completion, and we begin production of the 2nd level, which is much bigger and more ambitious than the first level! I have already begun pre-production on the level, and I'm hoping to have more to share in the coming weeks.

It's safe to say the game looks completely different from when I last blogged about it, and I'm so happy with all the positive feedback we're getting.

Level 1 Updates:

  • Voice acting is now implemented (You'll no longer have to hear text-to-speech)

  • Numerous path-finding fixes for both the player and enemies.

  • New features to the camera, which can now be rotated

  • UI bug fixes

  • General bug fixes

  • New art style/shader

  • New intro sequence to the level

Future For Level 1:

  • More visual feedback for the player's actions

  • UI improvements

  • UI bug fixes

  • Camera additions

  • More voice acting line

Even though it has taken us several months to get level 1 near completion, the 2nd and 3rd levels will be a lot quicker to create now that we have all the mechanics and functionality as well as the ideas in the game.

QA Is In Full Swing:

Over the last few weeks, you may have noticed a lot more posting and social media presence from the team promoting play tests for the game. We are pushing very heavily into the QA era now of the development process, and I will personally be heading up QA for the project.

Playtesting is one of the most crucial parts of development for any game, and here it's no different. Bugs, glitches and balancing issues all bring down games massively, so we want the most polished version possible for everyone to enjoy.

This also means that you, the reader, can very easily get involved!

How do you get involved, I hear you ask?

Simple!

Head over to our itch page and download Cosmic Cowboy:

(You can even join our Discord there while you're at it so you can talk to us directly!)

And then simply play our game. It's that easy. Found a bug? Send us a message. Have an interesting idea? We'd love to hear it! We want to get as many people as we can involved with the QA and playtesting. Every bug found helps us out massively, and we really do appreciate everyone who downloads the game!

Future Plans:

So what's next? We have big plans ahead of the next few updates, and I can't wait to share more information as we get those ideas developed in-game. Plans for the 2nd level have already begun. The game is shaping up now, and I'm very proud of how much the team has managed to accomplish over the last few months in such a small team.

Thank you for reading.
