Welcome back to the dev log for Cosmic Cowboy, since my last blog, there has been a ton of new features, bug fixes and general improvements.
Just a refresher for those who are just joining the dev log:
Cosmic Cowboy is a Tactics turn-based RPG inspired by Fallout 1 and XCom, where the player must navigate the distant planet of Proxima Centauri B and its dangerous inhabitants in this character-driven Space Western narrative.
Since my last blog post, there has been a ton of activity with play testing and lots of new features, mechanics, and bug fixes. The team has been very hard at work in the preparation of the release of the new 0.2.3 release of the game, which comes with much bigger features and quality-of-life improvements. We hope players love to see what has been added since the last build.
I'd also like to thank all the playtesters that have played our game. Everyone has provided us with so much vital feedback and even given us ideas that we never even thought about. Your hard work will pay off with the new build, where we hope to fix and address all the issues in the previous version.
So far, for build 0.2.3 we've implemented:
- Player turn UI
UI now tells the player if it's their turn
- Overhauled UI
Players can now hover over icons instead of clicking on them for a description
- New UI icons
Ammo, Health, and AP have their own unique UI icons now
- Action Points have been added
Players now have to think strategically about their actions and movement
- Menu tab
Pressing the tab key now brings up a menu screen UI
-Help tab on the menu screen
When pressing the tab key, players can now view a help tab which shows an overview of how to play the game if they're confused
- Objectives UI tab
When pressing the tab key, players can now view their objectives for the level
- Overhauled tutorial
The starter tutorial has now been completely redone, with tooltips and a better introduction to the gameplay, which should help newer players learn the game.
- New industry standard controls
The controls have been remapped to the industry standard for these types of games.
- Level collision fixes
The player shouldn't get stuck within the level now
- Health UI
The player can now see the current health of Cowboy
The team is looking forward to getting the new build out and ready, we are hoping to have it released by tomorrow, so keep an eye on our itch page:
Thank you for reading, and for everyone's continued support!
